James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem is About to Enter Your Morning Routine

Published on January 31st, 2012

Just because LCD Soundsystem has disbanded doesn’t mean former lead singer James Murphy isn’t staying occupied. Murphy’s latest project is the coffee scene, specifically espresso. As someone all too familiar with Brooklyn’s coffee snobbery, Murphy may have just found the perfect fallback career. Although Murphy may not have any extensive professional experience, he has been quoted as saying, “I make a lot of coffee. For my birthday, my girlfriend got me a training course with the world champion. That’s what I’m going to do when I get back to London.”

Murphy's espresso will undoubtedly shake you out of your slumber-like state.

Should Murphy find success with his espresso line, who knows what the cross-promotional possibilities could be?–hopefully involving Murphy’s record label, DFA. And is it incongruous to dream of a jingle to the beat of “North American Scum”? Or a re-working of “New York I Love You, But You’re Bringing Me Down” as “Starbucks I Love You, But You’re Bringing Me Down”? In the meantime, stay sated with a classic LCD Soundsystem cut.
