...The phrase "Black Friday" took on a different, much uglier meaning. I'm sure many of you heard, or read about it. Most of the headings being a variation of this:
Wal-Mart Employee Trampled To Death On Black Friday
All I can say is fuck that.
His name was Jdimytai Damour and he was 34 years old.
"Wal-Mart Employee"...even in death this man is being trampled.
He was a son, a brother, a friend. Most importantly, he was a fellow human being.
Scratch that last sentence. To say Jdimytai was a fellow human being, falsely implies that the mob, 2000 strong, that trampled him contained so much as a single human among it's ranks. It clearly didn't, or I wouldn't be writing this.
Instead it was a mob made up of people. 2000 people. 2000 worthless, soulless, greedy people. I hesitate to call this mob evil, because the word connotes thoughts of outside forces at work.
There were no outside forces. They knew exactly what they were doing.
These people literally treated Jdimytai like a doormat. They stamped the life right out of him.
How do you step on a person, and just keep right on going? HOW? Is a motherfucken plasma TV worth more to you than a man's life?
Apparently it is.
I fucken hate people.
To sacrifice this man's life, for what?!? Blindingly savage consumerism?
Jdimytai was only four years older than I am. Granted I don't do a lot of looking to the future, but I can't even begin to imagine my life ending in four years.
We here at BTH are guilty of spreading Black Friday hype, but I vow to do what little I can by boycotting this ugly day. I encourage anyone reading this to join me. If you really need something on Black Friday, shop online.
My thoughts are with Jdimytai's family, who I'm sure are struggling with the senselessness of his death.
I only hope I did them no disservice with this article.
My name is Lenny.
His name was Jdimytai Damour.
