After releasing the hard-edged rocker White Limo on February 13, the Foo Fighters officially released the first single from their upcoming album, Wasting Light, around the world this morning.

With a worldwide launch date at 12 Noon UK time, Rope began playing on the Foos' website.

Take a listen below.

Rope by Foo Fighters

Of all the songs on Wasting Light, which the band premiered at five tiny club gigs in the Los Angeles area over the past few weeks, Rope is probably one of the best candidates to become a radio hit. The chorus embeds itself in your head like most Foo radio singles, and the smooth verses (which sound like both Dave Grohl's and Taylor Hawkins' voices) are a nice touch as well.

No official word yet on if/when a music video for this song will pop up, but knowing how the band has handled the promotion for this album thus far, they could easily just drop a music video unannounced.

UPDATE: As Antiquiet posted earlier this morning, here's the official artwork for Wasting Light, and it's chock full of Pat Smear!

Oh, and here's a live version of Rope from the Roxy a few weeks ago in case you're curious what it sounds like live.
